A hand-coloured print of the Tank Square, Calcutta, from the Fiebig Collection: Views of Calcutta and Surrounding Districts, taken by Frederick Fiebig in 1851. This is a view looking along the west side of Tank (later Dalhousie) Square, with the Customs House on the left. A corner of Writers' Buildings, a residence for junior members of the East India Company staff or those employees who had just arrived from England, is visible on the north side of the square. Dalhousie Square lies at the centre of the area once covered by the original Fort William before the new fort was built to the south between 1757 and 1770.
