Photograph of a Toda village, near Udagamandalam, Tamil Nadu, from the Macnabb Collection (Col James Henry Erskine Reid): Album of Indian views taken c. 1900; although unsigned it was probably by Albert Thomas Penn. A caption on the print reads 'Toda Mund near Sylks [Hotel]'. Todas are a pastoral tribe of the Nilgiri Hills. They live in settlements of three to seven thatched houses scattered over the pasture slopes. Built on a wooden framework, a typical house has an arched roof in the shape of a half-barrel.
