The Vinery, Kaisor Bagh, Lucknow.
Photographer: Baker and Burke
Medium: Photographic print
Photograph of the Vinery, Kaisar Bagh in Lucknow, taken by Baker and Burke in 1860s, from the Edward Molyneux Collection: Album entitled 'Indian Photographs'. Kaisar Bagh was built by Nawab Wajid Ali Shah (r.1847-1856) between 1848 and 1850 and is probably the last Nawabi palace to be constructed in Lucknow. It consists of a series of rectangular and square courts arranged around a central main court with a garden. This view shows the vinery in foreground, with trellised paths leading off from the central pavilion, and a quadrangle and palace buildings beyond.
