Photograph of the Town Hall, Bombay from 'Views in the island of Bombay' by Charles Scott,1850s. One of the earliest surviving colonial building in Bombay, the Town Hall was designed by Colonel Thomas Cowper and completed in 1833. It is considered to be among the finest Neo-classical buildings in India. The impressive façade of pedimented porticoes surmounts a row of fluted doric columns, which were shipped from England. A grand flight of steps leads to the assembly halls.
The building now houses the Asiatic Society premises.
