Photograph of a temple at Umnabad, taken by D.H. Sykes in 1875-76. In his report of the operations in Western India in 1875-76 James Burgess wrote, 'The temple of Bhadra Kala has a portico...supported on pillars that may have belonged to an older building...over the shrine, which is nearly as wide as the hall, rises the tower...elaborately ornamented in the style of most of the better class of modern temples throughout the Canarese country with a profusion of plaster figures...painted in every variety of colours.'
