Photograph of Isa Khan's Zanana Tomb, in front of Isa Khan's Tomb, at Thatta in the Karachi District of Sind in Pakistan, taken by Henry Cousens in 1896, from the Archaeological Survey of India Collections: Western India 1894-96. Isa Khan Tarkhan (d.1644) was a ruler of Sind who served as governor for the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan (r.1628-58). Isa Khan built his tomb during his lifetime. To the east is the enclosure of the tomb of the ladies of the zenana. The surface of this tomb is covered in delicate carving, particularly the mihrab on the west wall. This is a view of a section of the mihrab (prayer niche) showing the finely carved tracery work.
