This photograph of the Sally Port, Srirangapatna taken in the 1890s by an unknown photographer, is from the Curzon Collection's 'Souvenir of Mysore Album'.A sallyport is an an opening in a fortified place for the passage of troops when making a sally. Tipu was killed in his fort during the storming of Seringapatam by Major General David Baird in 1799. Tipu Sultan, also known as "The Tiger of Mysore", carried on his father's fight against British colonialism and died a hero's death.
