Photograph of the fa├žade of the mandapa of the temple at Bhanpur, with the tower of the main shrine partly visible in the background, taken by Joseph David Beglar in 1874-76. In a report written at that time Beglar wrote, "The principal temple in the place is within a high walled court-yard on the edge of a deep small dirty pool of water...The temple is built in much the same style as the one at Chandeswar, but the Mahamandapa is certainly either an altogether late addition or has been built to replace the original one which tumbled down; it is, looking from the outside, a plain long dark hall with few mouldings and no sculpture, and thickly plastered over; the confined space of the court-yard prevented a proper photograph being taken from the interior, while the height of the inclosure walls prevented a similar attempt from the outside."
