Photograph of a general view of Wai , near Mahabaleshwar from the 'Vibart Collection of Views in South India' taken by an unknown photographer about 1855. Situated in the Satara district of Maharashtra, on the banks of the Krishna River, Wai is a place of Hindu pilgrimage with a large Brahman population. There are several temples here and seven bathing ghats, the monuments include a Ganesha idol known as Dholya Ganapati, carved from a single stone by Sardar Raste in 1762.
