Photograph of the verandah of the Buddhist Vihara Cave at Ghatochtacha, near Ajanta, taken by Henry Cousens around 1880, from the Archaeological Survey of India Collections. The monastery at Ghatochtacha was excavated during the Vakataka period in the 5th century, at the same time of some of the later Mahayana caves at Ajanta. This view shows figures of Buddha carved over the doorways of the cave.
