Photograph of the exterior of the Buddhist chaitya hall at Pitalkhora, taken by Henry Cousens in the 1880s, from the Archaeological Survey of India Collections. At Pitalkhora there is a group of early Buddhist caves situated along the curved side of a mountain. They were excavated during the Satavahana period, in the 2nd and1st centuries BC. Most of the caves are in a ruined condition. This view shows the collapsed facade of the large chaitya hall, Cave 3.
