The tomb complex at Batwa, or Batura, is about six miles south of Ahmadabad. The saint Burhan-ud-Din Qutb-ul-Alam's tomb is on the left of this image and the tomb of one of his sons is on the right. Qutb-ul-Alam was influencial in the court of Ahmad Shah I (r.1411-42) and died in Batwa in 1452. His tomb stands on a platform with arched and vaulted aisles. The large central dome, raised on a second tier of arches, was once surrounded by four pavilions, or chhatris.
