Photographic print of the walls and entrance of the fort of Hatta taken by Henry Cousens between 1892 and 1894. There is some confusion as to the exact location that this photograph was taken as there are two places called Hatta both with large forts. Both are situated in Madhya Pradesh one in the Damoh district and the other in the Balaghat district. Concerning the former, J.D. Beglar reported in his 'Report of a Tour in Bundelkhand and Malwathat' that "the fort of Hatta is one of the usual pattern, but with immense towers; these towers slope upwards considerably, and they and the walls are crowned with the usual battlements. They are built of rubble and mortar; the ruins inside are of a great gateway of which still stands in fair order..." The latter is merely described as "an old fort".
