Wingfield Park, Lucknow

Photograph of Wingfield Park at Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh, India, from the Macnabb Collection, taken by G.W. Lawrie and Company, most likely in the 1890s. Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, was ruled by the royal court of the Nawabs of Avadh (Oudh) until the middle of the 19th century. Wingfield Park in east Lucknow was laid out as a memorial to Sir Charles Wingfield (1820-1892), who served as Chief Commissioner of Oudh (1859-66). This view looks toward a marble pavilion which forms the centrepiece of the park and once adorned the Kaisarbagh Palace, erected in 1848-50 by Wajid Ali Shah, the last Nawab of Oudh.
