This view by Serres depicts a successful British attempt to regain St Lucia from the French in 1778. Led by Commander-in-Chief Samuel Barrington (1729-1800) a troop of British soldiers seized the island, fighting off a French counter-attack near Grand Cul-de-Sac Bay. In the distance the British fleet can be seen at anchor.
