Extract from an account of a residence on the island of Jamaica from 10 January 1670 to 12 June 1673. When the author (not named) first arrived on the island the Hon. James Modiford was Governor and the English fleet were under the command of the Hon. Morgan. A section of the document reads, ?That when Hon. Thomas Linch came Governor of the island he brought with him John White Esq to be Supreme Judge and Charles Atkinson Esq to be his Secretary: and soon after the arrival Peace was proclaimed with the Spaniards at Port Royal and then Hon. Thomas Lynch called an Assembly of the country and made several laws which afterwards were confirmed by the Late King and his Council.?
