During the 18th century more detailed maps of the West Indies began to appear. This map by German mapmakers Homann c. 1770 shows five islands selected for larger scale treatment. The parishes in each island are shown and some attempt has been made to illustrate relief on the maps of Jamaica and Barbados. Roads are also shown. Interestingly the maps have been drawn with different orientations in order to fit neatly on to the printing plate.
