Lady Nugents Journal -Page 124

Author: Nugent, Maria
Medium: Letterpress
Date: 1839

Extract from the journal of Lady Maria Nugent, the wife of George Nugent, Lieutenant-Governor of Jamaica, in which she comments on her attempts to teach her domestic slaves, Bristol and Cupid, their catechism. Lady Nugent may have been more liberal in her opinions than some of her contemporaries, but she continued to believe in the system of slavery and was against abolition.
