Print of the Spring Garden Estate in St George, taken from James Hakewill's 'A Picturesque Tour in the Island of Jamaica.' During the 1800s the Spring Garden Estate was owned by John Rock Grosett who inherited it from his great grandfather. It comprised 3,000 acres of land and was situated on the banks of Buff Bay in the shadow of the Blue Mountains. In this picture the main house can be seen on a hill overlooking the plantation works, offices, hospital and overseer's house. The enslaved workers huts were located in the wooded area at the bottom of the hill. The storehouse was positioned on the sea front and can be seen to the right of the picture, quite isolated from the other buildings.
