Extract from the journal of Sir Henry Martin, taken from the entries for March 1837, when he was in Barbados. He describes some of the burial grounds that he saw, and here, the tomb of Mrs Damaris Martin. It includes a small sketch of the tomb and a transcription of the inscription. Martin writes, ??I had taken notice and copied the inscription 20 years ago. ?Referring to my note book of that time, I find as follows, In memory of Mrs Damaris Martin, Born 1712- Baptised 1772- Died 1811. We found the brick work now gone or decayed; and the flat stone at the top, nearly level with the ground??
