Text of Quobna Ottobah Cugoano's 'Thoughts and Sentiments on the Evil and Wicked Traffic of the Slavery and Commerce of the Human species.' Cugoano, an ex-slave and prominent spokesman for London's black community, published this work in 1787. In it he argues for an end to the slave trade and for the emancipation of the enslaved people in the colonies. This public position taken by an African made a significant contribution to the abolitionist cause.
