This is a picture of the Eastridge Estate in Nicola Town on the island of St Christopher's (St Kitts). The estate was situated on the north east side of the island, known as the windward side, and benefited from more fertile soil and a refreshing breeze. In this picture we can see enslaved men and women cutting the sugar canes ready for transportation to the mill. To the right are women who are nursing their children. The grand building on the right with the steeple housed the boiling and curing rooms as well as the distillery. A range of mountains, the highest of which was Mount Misery, surrounded the estate.
