This is a copy of a magazine article which appeared as supplement to the 'Gentlemen's Magazine' in 1755. The article argues in favour of the New Road from Paddington to Islington, listing the benefits the road will bring to the city's transport and trade. Built by the Duke of Grafton to drive cattle east to Smithfield Market, avoiding Holborn and Oxford Street, this was the capital's first bypass.
