[Plan of property on Budge Row] 120 F
Medium: Pen and ink on paper
This plan comes from a rent book belonging to the Mercers' Company. One of the most prominent city livery companies, the Mercers' dealt primarily in textiles. Having amassed great wealth, they began to buy property in the City of London, which they then leased to tenants.
This is a plan of property on Budge Row, so called because the "budge" (lamb-skin) dealers used to live here. The names of the tenants of the building and those surrounding it are noted.
