Plan of Paris Garden or Paris Garden Manor, in Southwark, with title and compass star at bottom left, key to places at top right, and woodcut view of the 14th-century manor house above the plan. Before being built over at the end of the 17th century, the 100 acres of marshland depicted here had been used mainly for bleaching cloth. Its thickly wooded gardens were a favourite meeting place for conspirators and secret agents.
