“An Eel Fisher’s Hut.- This particular ‘Eel Sett,’ as it is locally called, is situated on the Ant, about mid-way between Barton Broad and Stalham. Notice the huge fish trunk on the left in the foreground; into this box as much as 10 stone of eels have been placed as the proceeds of a single September night’s netting. During the season, a boat owned by a prominent Yarmouth fish merchant goes the round of the various ‘setts,’ and buys up the week’s catch. The eels are then consigned to the London and Midland markets for retail sale.”
