Cantley, On The Yare

Photographer: Jennings, Payne (1843 - 1926)
Medium: Photographic print
Date: 1890
“Fishing at Cantley. – Cantley is the Yarmouth anglers’ paradise, and ‘Cantley Red House’ is the shrine which the brethren of the rod make for when they have a few hours to spare. It is only about 10 miles from Yarmouth by rail and 13 by water. In the summer it is a favourite amusement for Yarmouth yachtsmen to race their craft to Cantley, dine there and return across Breydon Water in the gloaming; a very pleasant way of spending a day. Cantley Station is but five minutes’ walk from the river.”
This is the third of 12 views published in 'Photographs of Norfolk Broads and Rivers' by Victorian photographer Payne Jennings. The letterpress description above by Ernest R. Suffling accompanies Plate LVII from the second edition of ‘Sun Pictures of the Norfolk Broads' which was published by Jennings in 1892.
