"The scene is Bury, the river the Arun. Two or three years ago, at Easter-time, Mr. Wellington was staying in the village to photograph, and on a dull, grey, spring day he saw the landscape here depicted. At once he imagined it with an effective sunset sky behind it, exposed his plate and waited. Subsequently he developed the landscape for contrast with the sky, from his own windows in London secured a suitable set of clouds, and here is the combined result."
