The orchestra is erected at Crystal Palace in Sydenham Hill, south London, in preparation for the opening ceremony taking place in the presence of Queen Victoria on 10 June 1854. The rebuilt Crystal Palace featured courts depicting the history of art and architecture and it provided a national centre of entertainment and enlightenment for the British public until it burnt down in 1936.
