In the Artist's Preface of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's novel 'Hyperion' British photographer and publisher of continental views Francis Frith writes of Innsbruck: "The Tyrolese capital is one of the most beautifully situated cities in the world. The fine and rapid stream of the Inn flows through its midst, and it is environed by mountains which retain in their crevices, at midsummer, brilliant patches of the 'everlasting snows.'"
