"The subject of our illustration in this month is Dr. J. Johnston, C.M. Edin., L.S.A. London, the President of the Bolton Camera Club. The learned doctor is an enthusiastic amateur, has received the distinction of an Amateur Photographer medal; has done much photography in Norway, and prepared a lecture upon 'Norway and the Norwegians,' illustrated by lantern slides from his own negatives; he is a member of the council of the Bolton Photographic Society, and in his profession finds photography of great service in recording pathological and surgical work."

Text by Charles W Hastings, editor of 'The Photographic Societies' Reporter'
