"The tower was a portion of the work done by Morton, between 1486 and 1502. His rebus, 'M on a ton,' is still to be seen on a leaden water-pipe. The photograph is taken from inside the grounds of the palace."

It was built of red brick with black brick diapering. The archway has a stone vault.
