Market Place, Looking South

"In the view looking south the Manchester of the present is linked with the Manchester of yore. The quaint black-and-white gabled structure in the foreground, the 'Wellington,' has been for many years a licensed house, and may claim to rank as one of the oldest buildings in the city...At the further end of the Market-place a view is obtained suggestive of modern Manchester - the new Royal Exchange, with its lofty circular tower."
Text by James Croston from his book 'Manchester As It Is'.
