Replica of the tomb of Lorenzo de Medici by Michelangelo (1475-1564) from the church of San Lorenzo, Florence, on display at the Crystal Palace exhibition hall in Sydenham. Lorenzo de Medici (1449-1492), Italian statesman and head of the ruling Florentine dynasty, was possibly the greatest patron of Renaissance art and literature. It was in his court that Michelangelo began his outstanding career as sculptor and artist.
