View of Napper’s Glen in the Vale of Neath in south Wales, taken by R.P. Napper of the British and Foreign Portrait Company. The image is one of twenty landscape photographs of the picturesque scenery of the Neath valley published in 1864. The glen is described by Charles Henry Waring in his accompanying text:

“This quiet nook is on the Neath Vaughan River, about a mile and a half above the Upper Scwd Ddwlu Fall. In this solitary and unfrequented spot the wild animals ‘are so unaccustomed to man,’ that a squirrel came up to within a foot or two of the camera, while the Artist was taking this view, and appeared not to be at all alarmed by the intrusion of a visitor.”
