Workmen prepare a case for the display of marine objects at the Crystal Palace exhibition hall at Sydenham. The Crystal Palace was originally built in Hyde Park to contain the 1851 Great Exhibition, a showcase for British arts and industries. Following the closure of the exhibition, the structure was dismantled and rebuilt in Sydenham, south London, where it housed a national centre of entertainment and enlightenment for the British public.
