Stock Gyll Force is a 70 foot waterfall near Ambleside formed by a tributary of the River Rothay. English poet William Wordsworth made his home on the shores of Rydal Water, about two miles north of Ambleside. His work was greatly inspired by the natural beauty of the local landscape. Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834), Robert Southey (1774-1843) and Thomas de Quincey (1785 - 1859) also made the Lake District their home at the beginning of the 19th century.
