"And now we come to 'Sand Dunes,' a sea of sand with wind-born ripple-marks - the study of which have taught geologists so much. Note, too, that here we have the constructive power of herbage seen as though in action, gathering sand and forming a new continent. This stretch of South Devonshire coast was found in the course of a very hot afternoon's walk in August last, and the 'find' entailed a walk back a couple of miles to fetch the camera. The idea, which in the first attracted notice, was the utter desolation, dreariness and solitude of an expanse of sand, as it lay, wave after wave, receding into the far distance."

Descriptive text by F C Lambert from 'Sun Artists' (Number 6)
