St Bartholomew's The Great 15
Photographer: Dixon, Henry (1820 - 1892), A & J Bool
Medium: Photographic print
In 'Photographs of Old London' Alfred Marks explains that these photographs of Saint Bartholomew The Great aim "...to show the picturesque manner in which ecclesiastical and civil buildings are, as it were, dovetailed together in this quaintest nook of Old London." This photograph shows the Green Churchyard of the Priory which was founded in 1123. It occupies the site of the old south transept and "is reached by a flight of stairs from the level of the interior of the Church."
