“St. Benet’s Abbey... - It is, I believe, a fact that the Bishop of Norwich is still styled in ecclesiastical documents ‘Bishop of Norwich and Abbot of St. Benet-et-Holme.’ This is said to be because the Abbot of St. Benet’s in King Henry VIII. reign, was not at the dissolution of the monasteries cashiered but removed to the See of Norwich. His successors have therefore retained the title of Abbot ever since, a distinction held by no other English Bishop.”
