“South Walsham Broad. – The curious arrangement of hoops and net hung from the tree is the poke-end of an eel net hung up to dry. Notice the return pieces, in the interior of the net, in the form of funnels; these prevent the eels from finding their way out when once in. Standing by the tree is a long-handled weed rake, for keeping the spot clear, when the net is placed, of undergrowth.”

Letterpress description by Ernest R. Suffling accompanying Plate LXXXVII from ‘Sun Pictures of the Norfolk Broads’.
