The oldest and most exclusive of Manchester's club houses is the Union Club in Mosley Street, "a plain, substantial building of stone, which first opened its doors to the members in March 21, 1836. The rooms are large, lofty, and luxuriously furnished; the cuisine is said to be irreproachable, and the accommodation is in every respect equal to that of the best London clubs." Text by James Croston.
