"Sonning in Berks, is the next village on the banks of the river, as we ascend it, after quitting Shiplake. A bridge of brick, the records of which are older than those of any other upon it, here crosses the Thames...The beautiful woods of Sonning Park overhang the river; and on an elevated spot is Holme Park, the mansion of Robert Palmer, Esq., with a lovely view of the river winding through the valley below."
