View Of Messrs. Penn And Son's Works Greenwich And Deptford part A0
Medium: Photographic print
Messrs John Penn and Sons Works are divided into two establishments, the engine works at Greenwich and the boiler manufactory at Deptford, both on the banks of the Thames. The firm originally produced cranes, treadmills, windmills and waterwheels. The first marine engine was built in the 1820s, and in 1830 John Penn Junior directed his attention to the steam-engine, later perfecting the compact oscillating-engine.
