"Across the Thames at Walton formerly was a curious old bridge, erected in 1750 by Mr. Decker. This gave place to a new one in 1787, the centre arch of which fell in 1850. The new bridge is composed of lattice girders of iron, on piers of brick. It is excellent for traffic, but of its beauty we can say nothing."
