"Ascending the river, we pass Park Place, one of the most famous parks on the Thames, with lovely hanging woods and pretty boat-house. The next village we come to is Wargrave, Berks, the ferry at which, by the George and Dragon Inn, now bearing the more commonplace name of Wyatt's Family Hotel, is shown at the right of the view. At Wargrave, Mr. Thomas Day, the author of a book which every schoolboy delights in, 'Sandford and Merton', and which has outlived his graver efforts, met his death, having been thrown and kicked by an unbroken horse on which he was riding."
