Warwick Castle 18
Photographer: Smith, Douglas
Medium: Photographic print
Prize-winning photograph in the 'Inland Scenery, With Or Without Figures' category of the 'Amateur Photographer' Monthly Competition No. 38, August 1892
"'Warwick Castle' (Douglas Smith, Yorkshire - Bronze Medal). An excellent example of good technical photography. The 12 x 10 gelatino-chloride print which this competitor submitted was almost faultless in technique, and did him great credit. Warwick Castle is probably as much photographed as any other interesting historical ruin in the country; but by carefully selecting his point of view Mr. Smith has avoided a topographical rendering, this particular view being only obtainable from private ground. Two seconds' exposure in a good light in may was given with a Wray rapid rectilinear working at f/22."
