Exterior of the north front of Westminster Abbey with the new towers and spires designed by Christopher Wren and built by his assistant and successor Nicholas Hawksmoor. The abbey is crowded with tombs and monuments to churchmen, scientists, writers, politicians and nobility. Most British monarchs are buried at Westminster Abbey and it has been the crowning place for all sovereigns since the 11th century.
