This leaflet advertises a political meeting at the Horns Assembly Rooms. There were many challenges for politicians at this time, among them the question of Home Rule for Ireland. The cartoon shows Liberal leader William Gladstone as a dog, engaged in a tug of war against the Tory peers Salisbury, Matthews and Randolph Churchill. Gladstone supported limited Irish independence from Britain and a separate parliament for Ireland. The authors of the text hope that "our Grand Old Gladstone will lick 'em all".
