The Bath Oliver biscuit, featured on this leaflet, was invented by Doctor W Oliver, an 18th-century physician living in Bath who treated many patients visiting the Spa waters there. He felt that they needed to eat a plain biscuit to counter the rich food that they would have been indulging in. The Bath Oliver biscuit is very plain and unsweetened. Today these biscuits are usually eaten with cheese.
